Escape Artist [A Final Boss Retirement LitRPG]

by ZEmersonWrites

48 chapters · 113k words · updated 3 Oct 2026

After spending fifty lives as the prophesied Lord of Dusk, Corbin is officially done trying to stop the Hero of Legend. He's tried everything he could think of. Fighting. Surrendering. Killing the Hero early, late, and just about every point in between. Somehow it almost always ended with Prince Frederick standing over his corpse and Corbin's unique Escape Artist trait resetting him back to the day it all began. So this time, he's trying something different. He’d do without all of his usual things. From the armies and forbidden relics, all the way to that stubborn, annoyingly inevitable prophecy. This time he’d make do with just an Alchemist class, a hundred acres at the edge of nowhere, and a dream of brewing ale that doesn't taste terrible. Unfortunately, farming requires workers. Workers need roads. Roads bring merchants. Merchants bring settlers. And the failing hamlet Corbin chose specifically because nobody cared about it is suddenly becoming a thriving little town. The real cherry on top that made it worse? Corbin is starting to care a bit too... And somewhere out there, the Hero of Legend is still looking for the last member of his prophesized party, not knowing that the missing companion and the Lord of Dusk were one and the same. Escaping destiny was supposed to be less of a headache than this. New Chapters Uploaded Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! What To Expect: -Chapters between 1500 and 3000 words, with the general average being around 2200ish (there's some that need some more leg room while others benefit from brevity!) -A regression/loop premise on the MC’s 51st attempt—but this story follows his attempt to break the pattern, rather than repeatedly replaying the same timeline. -LitRPG mechanics with classes, levels, skills, system windows, property management, contracts, and businesses, without heavy stat-sheet crunch. -An extremely experienced, but exceptionally traumatized morally gray protagonist who is deliberately trying not to become powerful again. -Slow-burn settlement development, farming, alchemy, brewing, construction, trade, and the increasingly complicated consequences of trying to live a “simple” life. -Character-driven slice-of-life and dry humor punctuated by monsters, violence, old trauma, and a prophecy that refuses to stay ignored. -A very slow-burn romantic subplot. The chemistry exists, but it's not the major plot driver and there's absolutely no harem! -A protagonist who's already been the final boss—and would really, really rather not do it again. Just Add Mana

by SilverLinings

199 chapters · 675k words · updated 3 Oct 2026

The more lives you've lived, the more mana you have, and Cale has lived too many lives to count. At this point, his core is closer to the magical equivalent of a nuclear reactor. The downside to this is that conventional spells have become impossibly difficult to cast: Cale simply has too much mana. His spells collapse under the weight of his magic. Then he finds himself summoned to a new world. One with a spellwork system capable of adjusting to his ridiculous reserves, creating new spells just for him. Of course, things are never that simple. New magic means new things to learn, and if he wants to make spells worth having, that means going to a magic academy. On top of that, an old dragon has taken an interest in him, the kingdom's hunters seem alarmingly intent on attacking his classmates, and Cale's pretty sure at least one ancient evil has followed him from a past life. But who knows? With magic back on the table, he might finally be able to perform what he sees as the true pinnacle of spellwork: baking. -- Updates Tues/Thurs/Sat at ~7AM PT. This book is currently only available on RoyalRoad and Reddit. If it appears anywhere else, it is stolen.

by onedayokay

140 chapters · 465k words · updated 2 Oct 2026

Magic was chaos. Now it’s chemistry. Through Stoichiomancy, power is measured, quantified, and controlled. Ascension follows a strict ladder, each tier with a fixed number of sanctioned seats. There are no anomalies. Until Arielle Blacksoil. Born to a bloodline without magic, Arielle should have been invisible to the system. Instead, an accident reveals the impossible: She’s an unsanctioned archmage. If discovered, they’ll strip her power or turn her into a weapon. To survive, Arielle enrolls in the Academy and pretends to climb the ranks while hiding magic that eclipses her professors. For the first time in her life, she has rivals, teammates…maybe even friends.  But hiding overwhelming power isn’t easy. Pretty soon, she’s embroiled in faction conflict, foiling villainous plots and hunting a mysterious primordial that lurks in the dark. --- - Updates M, T, Th, F (4X/Week)  - 2500 - 3500 word chapters - OP MC - Hidden Genius at a Magic Academy -  Magic System Blending Cultivation and Chemistry

Zenith of Sorcery

by nobody103

41 chapters · 261k words · updated 13 Sep 2026

After years of exile, Marcus is coming back home. A powerful mage with few equals, Marcus lives in a world full of monsters and powerful adepts, many of which have bad histories with him. But he has not come back to pursue vengeance or start a fight. All Marcus wants to do is reconnect with old friends, build himself a house, and maybe train a successor or two. Alas, the world didn’t stop just because Marcus went into exile, and not everyone is content to let go of old grievances. Strange things are happening in the world at large, too, hinting at a looming disaster of unknown nature. Still, where there is a will, there is a way. If nothing else, Marcus has a lot of magical power to throw at problems. +++ Zenith of Sorcery is set in its own original setting and isn’t related to Mother of Learning… beyond being written by the same person, of course. This is a more classical fantasy story than my previous one, with a lower level of technology and stuff like elves and dwarves, but it has a lot of worldbuilding effort put into it and its own complex magical system. The story has significant xianxia influences, but isn’t meant to be a xianxia story. For those of you not familiar with my previous work, I write relatively slowly. I intend to publish chapters at the rate of one chapter every three or four weeks, subject to further delays as life intervenes. Next Chapter Target Date: October 11th, 2026

This Book began May 2, 2025, and continues the story of the Shards of Aelryinth in other multiverses and worlds. Finisher in the October 2025 and April 2026 Writathon Challenges! ----------------- Shard Funf has been sent to yet another new multiverse, this one resembling Mystara of BECMI D&D. This world is oddly familiar, with dungeons and dragons, elves and dwarves, humans and orcs... but Good and Heaven are not powers here, only uncaring Law and Chaos, evil is in the eye of the beholder, and there are no gods, only ascended Immortals going about their personal Projects without much care for the lives and desires of mere mortals. The road to mortal Power is clear and broad, and Funf has a huge head start on matters, but when the world is in the hands of rival Immortals and hapless mortals are caught in the middle, it's going to take a new approach to things to shake up the existing order of things and maybe, just maybe, bring the Light of Heaven and some actual culpability to a bunch of uncaring super-beings...

The Elf Who Would Become A Dragon [Story Complete; Copyedits in Progress]

by ljamberfantasy

160 chapters · 781k words · updated 4 Jul 2026

They made her conform. She made them regret it. Saphienne lived the idyllic life of an elf in the woodlands. They told her she was loved; they told her she belonged; they told her she was superior to the aging, dying mortals. Eternal joy was to be her birthright, delivered by the supremacy of elven magic. But Saphienne was a profoundly gifted child — and all gifts demand a price. The woodlands weren’t the paradise they seemed, and once she’d witnessed their hidden suffering she couldn’t look away. Perhaps that was why she pursued an apprenticeship in wizardry, hurling herself against challenges both magical and moral. Saphienne would grow to become a formidable woman… and when the flames subsided, the elves would strike her name from history. Come: listen to the story they don’t want you to hear. Behold Saphienne in her becoming. See her rise and fall, losing what she cherishes and finding what matters, and in the end? Decide who she was for yourself. The Elf Who Would Become A Dragon is a heartwarming and heartbreaking fantasy about rejection and belonging, power and consequence, and the cost of being ourselves. Expect character-driven writing; fun but believable characters who grow over time; slow burn, slice of life drama with highs and lows; conflict with meaningful stakes; twists with satisfying conclusions; thoughtful and detailed worldbuilding; and an accessible, compelling story that has many layers — if you want to look for them. Written with accessible language for adult readers. New chapters on Wednesdays and Fridays. All chapters © L. J. Amber 2025–2026, All Rights Reserved.
