Just Add Mana

by SilverLinings

199 chapters · 675k words · updated 3 Oct 2026

The more lives you've lived, the more mana you have, and Cale has lived too many lives to count. At this point, his core is closer to the magical equivalent of a nuclear reactor. The downside to this is that conventional spells have become impossibly difficult to cast: Cale simply has too much mana. His spells collapse under the weight of his magic. Then he finds himself summoned to a new world. One with a spellwork system capable of adjusting to his ridiculous reserves, creating new spells just for him. Of course, things are never that simple. New magic means new things to learn, and if he wants to make spells worth having, that means going to a magic academy. On top of that, an old dragon has taken an interest in him, the kingdom's hunters seem alarmingly intent on attacking his classmates, and Cale's pretty sure at least one ancient evil has followed him from a past life. But who knows? With magic back on the table, he might finally be able to perform what he sees as the true pinnacle of spellwork: baking. -- Updates Tues/Thurs/Sat at ~7AM PT. This book is currently only available on RoyalRoad and Reddit. Magic was chaos. Now it’s chemistry. Through Stoichiomancy, power is measured, quantified, and controlled. Ascension follows a strict ladder, each tier with a fixed number of sanctioned seats. There are no anomalies. Until Arielle Blacksoil. Born to a bloodline without magic, Arielle should have been invisible to the system. Instead, an accident reveals the impossible: She’s an unsanctioned archmage. If discovered, they’ll strip her power or turn her into a weapon. To survive, Arielle enrolls in the Academy and pretends to climb the ranks while hiding magic that eclipses her professors. For the first time in her life, she has rivals, teammates…maybe even friends.  But hiding overwhelming power isn’t easy. The Voice gave Mark a second life and sent him to a world where people like him are burned at the stake. It just forgot to explain what the priests would be looking for. Mark had already survived the worst years of his life. Then he wasted the ones that came after them. He had plans. Good ones, even. He just never got around to starting them. Instead of waking up as a legendary hero, however, he finds himself trapped in the body of a nameless infant in a dirt-poor farming family. To claim this second life, Mark must survive the temple's tests and prove he isn't Abyss-touched.  All he has is the promise of a System that refuses to fully awaken, and a Trait hidden behind a blacked-out name. No powerful mentor waiting to guide him. No legendary artifact falling into his lap. No power without effort. In a world shaped by Traits, Professions, and power, most people spend their lives trying to become someone. Mark's problem is figuring out what he already is. A character-driven slow-burn progression fantasy about second chances, family, mystery, and power earned one step at a time. Three books and 140+ chapters already written.

A conversation with a handsome stranger leaves Ariane chained in a cellar with a strange affliction. She soon discovers that the darkness of the nineteenth century’s Deep South hides many dangers. Mages, wolf shifters and the humans who hunt them play a risky game where to stumble is to die, all under the amused gaze of the apex predators of the supernatural world: vampires. It is never healthy to attract the gaze of the aristocracy of the night. It takes much to survive in this merciless world, but Ariane will not let that deter her. The southern belle has a bite, and she is willing to learn and to grow in this hostile new world. She will use whatever means necessary to reclaim her freedom, be it guile, charm, or those intriguing new instincts that make blood so delectable.      This is a story of vampires as I believe they should be, with their strengths and weaknesses, with their remnants of humanity and the beast inside.
