Chapter 4 of 66

Ch.4- Crowamy.

, about 13 minutes to read

Amy collapsed into the plush sofa of her new dormitory: a luxurious apartment with big ass windows, a big ass bed, a big ass sofa, a big ass kitchen, and a big ass bathroom, all looking extremely expensive.
The amount of things that had happened today had left her completely exhausted. She could not believe that she was lying here right now; back when she touched the Veritas Mirror and nothing happened, she genuinely thought she was done for.
“We really did manage to clutch that, huh… I can’t believe it,” Amy muttered. “I also can’t believe that the Goddess actually set up a background for me.”
The Goddess had indeed sent the book here with a bunch of papers and a citizenship certificate, and she had also created a record of Amy’s existence in a village somewhere far away from here.
“That woman might be petty, but she sure isn’t a slacker.”
[Who do you think the Goddess is? She’s quite a generous deity, you know.]
Amy snorted, not even deigning to reply to the very stupid comment and instead shifting the conversation to the topic at hand.
“But really, it was way too close.”
Amy brought her palm close to her face and then clenched it. She felt some sort of tension, or rather power, passing through her.
Every single human out there has probably dreamed at least once of getting some kind of magic powers. To think she would actually get them…
“This is insane… this whole day is insane,” she whispered.
[If you want to have a mental breakdown over your inability to return to your home world, right now is the best moment.]
Amy let out a dry laugh. “I should be freaking out more, right? But I think I’m too tired for that.”
She exhaled slowly, staring out the window at the Academy grounds. It was only now that she realized that if she had to save this world, she would spend years of her life here.
“I wanna go home,” she admitted, voice barely above a whisper.
The book tilted in the air as if considering her words. [Tell me, Amy, what was your life like on Earth?]
Amy scoffed. “Why do you want to know?”
[Because I only know about Earthlings through what I’ve accessed from the internet. And to be honest, I find it hard to believe that all of you are much different from the people of this world.]
She snorted at that. “Well, you would be right. Life is very boring compared to whatever videos you have seen.”
[Really…?]
Amy noticed the book’s voice sounding slightly robotic as it asked that question, which made one of her eyebrows rise.
“Yeah, really,” she continued, shrugging off whatever she had noticed. “Although, maybe I’m being unfair since mine was pretty shit. I had basically lost all my friends, and my mother was probably praying for me to turn eighteen as soon as possible so she could get away from me.”
[Well now I’m curious. Why do you want to go back to such a world then?]
Amy opened her mouth to respond, but then closed it. She thought for a second in silence, then shook her head.
“Weren’t we going to look at the manga chapter and the readers’ reactions that just got released?” she asked, changing the topic. “You said you could show it to me, didn’t you?”
The book didn’t respond for a second, making Amy slightly worried, something which proved unfounded as, without any sort of warning, it began shining in a golden light.
Amy covered her eyes with her hand, and once she lowered it, she saw the book, which was supposed to be just red with a yellow triangle in the center, had transformed into a manga tome.
“Damn,” Amy, who was unaccustomed to magic, couldn’t help but exclaim at this.
She leaned forward, took the book into her hands, and observed the cover. There she saw the protagonist group consisting of the edgy protagonist, Crow, with black hair and eyes; the timid but cold-looking noble lady, Lain, with white hair and pale eyes; the funny, very tall, and very muscled guy of the group, Ash, with cropped, tinted yellow hair and a smirk; and finally Lyra, a girl with an animated personality, auburn curled hair and eyes.
They were all standing in front of the Academy’s gate while looking at the viewer. Behind them, nine other students whom Amy recognized some from Class S second year- were walking inside; she could see both Iris and Zayd there.
But that wasn’t what mattered; the truly important part was in the corner of the cover, leaning against one of the Academy walls. Amy saw herself there, covered in shadows.
“Christ, I’m actually there.” She couldn’t help but leak a bit of excitement as she said this. “Though they’ve tucked me away in the corner…”
[Would you prefer to be front and center?]
“No…but like, c’mon, did I really have to be in the corner? And under the shadows too. It makes me seem a bit evil…” She frowned. “I look like I’m plotting something devious.”
[That tracks.]
Amy rolled her eyes before continuing to inspect her portrait. “Still, they really drew me well, huh… My golden hair and eyes feel like they shine. Also, my figure is really something… they could have made my tits bigger, though…”
[Are other earthling women usually as vulgar as you?]
“Worse.”
Without wasting any more time, Amy flipped open the manga to the first page, then immediately skipped it since it was about Crow visiting the orphanage where he grew up.
“Boring~” she muttered as she continued flipping pages, and only stopped when Crow finally entered the teahouse where they met.
In the panel, Crow sat, thinking deeply, as shown by a thought box.
“If this key truly is what I think it is, I might finally get a lead on my father—”
Behind him, Amy stood up from her chair and walked towards him, something that he immediately noted.
After being called, he finally turned, and what he saw was something which Amy could only describe as the most beautiful being to walk the universe.
“Damn, maybe this manga wasn’t as bad as I thought…”
[I have no idea what the artist was thinking. That clearly is not you.]
“Whatever, dude.”
The following panels recounted their conversation exactly as Amy had lived it, with Crow thinking something along the lines of: this might be a trap.
And I thought I was being smooth.
The manga continued with Crow deliberating whether to help her or not, and finally deciding to after a panel of him as a kid, accompanied by a figure cloaked in shadows.
“…I suppose I know what it’s like to be lost,” his thoughts read.
“That flashback felt kind of forced, but okay…”
[It was fine, you are just hating.]
As they exited the teahouse and continued the conversation Amy had just lived through a few hours earlier, Crow’s thoughts were revealed. The entire time, he was pondering whether she was a spy or a member of the Tribe of Onyx and if she needed to be killed, something that Amy found utterly insane.
[Completely understandable reaction, if you ask me.]
“Well, no one asked you.”
The scene continued with Crow asking Amy if she was waiting for him and her responding with nothing but a smile, something which Amy just realized was drawn in such a way as to show the two locking eyes and being very close, almost as if this was a scene from a…shoujo…?
What!?
Amy flushed. “I wasn’t flirting; the fuck is up with this vibe!?”
[The artist certainly seems to be setting up something between you two.]
“Ew, fuck no. I refuse to be part of some cliché romance subplot.”
[A pity that what you want doesn’t really matter, isn’t it?]
“…” Amy pursed her lips and decided to keep reading instead of listening to the book’s provocations.
The manga continued with Crow looking at the book next to Amy and thinking it wasn’t an ordinary artifact, but one very similar to Bloodedge in the way it seemed sentient and communicated.

Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit.

He debated whether to ask her or not, and in the end he did, because he was tired of thinking and thought the best way was to be direct, since the other party wasn’t exactly discreet about their attempt to get close to him.
The conversation about the book was rendered in tense panels: close-ups of Crow’s narrowing eyes, Amy’s barely concealed surprise, the book hovering ominously between them. A text bubble captured his words:
“That book of yours, it communicates with you; I can feel faint, intermittent signals from it, and it reminds me of something similar that happened to me not too long ago.”
Manga Amy hesitated before giving a positive answer and then not elaborating further.
Below these panels was Crow’s internal reaction:
She admitted it so easily. Either she trusts me for whatever reason, or she wants me to know. But why?
“Huh, so he was overthinking everything I said,” Amy mused. “That’s actually hilarious.”
The conversation died down as the two of them reached the academy. Throughout their last goodbye and Amy’s revelation of the key detail, Crow had been on edge.
How…? Nobody other than Ash, Lyra, and Lain should know that, he thought.
“That was genuinely scary,” Amy muttered, studying the panel. “Like I almost shit my pants.”
[What did you expect? For all he knows, that one thing might be connected to his missing father.]
His thought boxes revealed that he was even thinking of reporting her to Professor Vanheim, the main teacher of Class S and one of the protagonist party’s confidants, something that made Amy frown deeply.
[We were joking before, but at this rate, you might seriously become a villain.]
“Damn, you might actually be right…”
Once Amy and Crow’s goodbye ended, Crow finally moved before realizing his companions—Lain, Lyra, and Ash—had been staring at him for what looked like a while.
Upon seeing them, Crow immediately forced the tension in his shoulders to go away and put on his characteristic neutral expression, which, honestly, was such a bad idea because a misunderstanding rapidly formed.
“Blonde, pretty face… Isn’t that your type?” said Ash, obviously trying to tease him.
“I don’t have a type.”
Lyra pouted, grabbed Crow’s arm, and asked, slightly panicked, who Amy was, while Lain looked completely devoid of any reaction, making one guess what was going through her mind.
The final page of the manga ended with Crow trying to ignore his friends’ questions as they entered the academy.
Amy stared at the final page, taking it all in.
“I fucking hate harems…” she finally commented.
[You made quite the impression. That was the goal, wasn’t it? Aren’t you happy?]
“…fuck making an impression. If I have to become Crow’s ninth girlfriend to achieve my goals, I would rather die…”
[The readers would probably enjoy that, though.]
“I’m sure they would,” Amy muttered. “Speaking of which, let me see their comments; I want to know their thoughts.”
[I was hoping you would ask that.]
The book suddenly started shining. Amy once again protected her eyes from the light until it ended; this time, instead of a tome, she was met with the book’s normal appearance, but within its pages a website was printed.
Without any sort of preamble, Amy got to reading.

No_acciddd25555555555 [Thread Starter] Oh, thank god finally we are out the damn orphanage arc and going back for the plot to progress. With some luck, Takashi sensei won’t decide to do the same exact shit with future arcs.

LoreHunter99 ↪ replying to MagicMaven42 But the orphanage storyline was good???? Why are we pretending like it sucked all of the sudden? I love it precisely because it was nice and slow and we learned tons of things like the mark in Crow’s back that grows stronger each time he suffers is getting more and more powerful. And that is clearly going to be key when they inevitably face the Blood Emperor in the future.

CrowSimp4Life [New Member] Is nobody going to talk about the new harem member? I think Crow and her make a good pairing but I lowkey like Lain more

ShipCaptain ↪ replying to CrowSimp4Life I disagree, I think those two had more chemistry on just a few panels than Lain and Crow did in the entire manga, same with Lyra and Crow

“Is there a way to filter ship comments?” Amy asked; just reading some of the stuff written here made her want to blow her head off with a gun.
[No, but I can show you more specific threads.]
“Then please do.”
The book shone again before a different set of comments was shown:

ArandomDude [Thread Starter]:
This is an analysis I really wanted to do about chapter 151, specifically about the new character.
So the new blonde girl (Amy) seems to have some kind of seer-related ability if we go by her conversation with Crow. Which is something I find odd because Takashi-sensei never uses two characters with the same power in the same class. (She’s definitely getting to class S) Zayd already has divination and she doesn’t appear to be a Gaspard, so I think her power might be more complicated than the standard one.
Her words for me give me to understand that contrary to other seers she actually doesn’t need to follow a predetermined path but instead create a new one, if that make sense. That would be a very cool ability, I think. Thoughts?

CrowSimp4Life ↪ replying to ArandomDude I agree with your theorie and I would like to add my own as I noticed the book following her by the side rather than behind or her holding it like Crow does with Bloodedge.
I think the book is actually controlling her and it’s not her own power that she’s using but rather the book’s

MagicMaven42 ↪ replying to CrowSimp4Life Not gonna lie, her being controlled by the book would be a crazy twist but I don’t think I liked it.

SspypsS [Gold Supporter]: Amy design tell me everything I need to know. She’s definitely joining class S

Academyexpert ↪ replying to SspypsS S class?? Are you kidding? Those spots are insanely competitive. Remember how hard Iris had to work just to be considered? Not everyone gets a free pass…

SspypsS ↪ replying to Academyexpert Actually, S class makes perfect sense from a narrative perspective. She needs to interact with the main character, after all.

Granitesgaze [Thread Starter]:
Since we can all mostly agree that Amy is getting into class S, I wanted to talk about how exited I am of the new additions (first years). We have been promised a Game War arc since more than fifty chapters ago. i know it’s still far away since its at the beginnings of the second semester, but I’m still really damn excited.

Theoryweaver ↪ replying to Granitesgaze Did anybody else notice the amount of parallels that both Zayd and Amy share? Because they’re seers, they are hella mysterious, and look damn shady. Is a rivalrity being set up here?
Darkmagic505 ↪ replying to Theoryweaver I couldn’t stop thinking about this while reading teh chapter. What if Amy and Zayd are actually from teh same descent but from different families? That would explain why Amy is a seer despite not being from teh Gaspards

Criticaldder ↪ replying to GranitesGaze I don’t want to be a bummer but genuinely don’t like a character that looks like it’s going to be important being added this late, feels lazy

Foressimist ↪ replying to Criticaldder I also didn’t want to get over people’s excitement but I thought the addition was quite bad. Maybe i was just in a bad mood but I think this manga is not going in a good direction :/

Amy closed the manga with a sigh, leaning back against the sofa cushions. She glanced toward the window, noticing how dark it had gotten. “Do you know what time it is?”
[Nearly midnight. Classes begin tomorrow at dawn, by the way.]
“DAWN?” Amy bolted upright. “Are you serious? I haven’t even had time to process anything, and now I have to be up at the crack of dawn for classes?”
[If we hadn’t registered on the final day, you might have had several days to acclimate before classes began, but alas.]
“It’s not like I had any say in the matter.”
[True. I wonder if the Goddess chose the last day deliberately.]
Amy flopped back down on the sofa. “Wouldn’t put it past her.”
While lying down, Amy stared at the ceiling, letting the tension brought by the awful day slip away from her body.
Or at least she tried to, as her brain decided to remind her that she still had something to do.
Amy groaned before speaking. “I should probably learn how to use my powers.” She thought for a moment, then added, “If only it were as easy as in a video game.”
[A video game? Mmmm…]
For a moment, nothing happened. Then suddenly, the book glowed once again, opening to reveal text.
Name: Amy Stake
Special ability: Fate’s sight.
Mastery: 1
STR: F / END: E / DEX: E / AGI: F / MAG: C
Amy’s jaw dropped as she stared at the page. “You can do that!?”
[Surprise!] the book replied, sounding entirely too pleased with itself.
